Self Drive – It’s Your Choice - UNESCO Tour
Here is an option that might be just what you’re looking for. It gives you the freedom of choosing what you want to see and do without the crowds, restrictions and hurry up of an escorted tour. Instead of driving aimlessly from one hotel to another, you could tell us what you are interested in and what standard of accommodation you would like. We’ll then plot the route and mark a map, book the hotels or pensions and list all the attractions you have requested with a little extra thrown in. Listed below, are some samples itineraries we’ve put together after being given specific instructions from a very relieved traveller.

UNESCO Tour – After a conference in Milan,

our client had some spare time before returning to Rome for appointments, and decided a tour of Slovenia and Croatia would be ideal. Our client explained he was travelling alone and expressed a keen interest in UNESCO listed sites. He also made it clear that escorted tours were not his cup of tea. He added comments that indicated to us that he was quite fussy about standard of accommodation and there was only five days to do this.

Cuisine and Wine

Slovenia is a hospitable country which surprises its visitors with the abundance of traditional Slovenian food as well as culinary masterpieces which originated outside the country but have received a Slovenian touch. You can experience all the pleasures on wine roads and in the traditional “gostilnas”.

Gostilnas are often owned by families and mainly preserve the traditions by preparing homemade dishes supplemented by excellent Slovenian wines, especially in the wine growing regions. Gostilnas are famous for homeliness and genuine hospitality which is why so many guests return again and again.

Popular everyday dishes are made from cabbage, beans and potatoes. Every Slovenian region has its own various types of bread and flour-based dishes made from buckwheat are a speciality. More than 70 variations of štruklji are widely spread across Slovenia. The most famous is “prekmurska gibanica”.

Don’t forget to try “potica”, a cake roll filled with walnuts, poppy seeds, raisins, various herbs, cottage cheese, honey or crackling. In Primorska, they will delight you with original fish dishes and delicacies made from local plants, vegetables and fruit (asparagus, artichokes, truffles), and of course “pršut” from Karst which is cured in the bora wind.

A special delight are Slovenian wines. On the coast you should try Teran, Rumeni Muškat, Malvazija and Rebula. The speciality of the Posavje Region is Cvièek, a Slovene wine with a light taste and low alcohol. In the inns and restaurants you consult experienced sommeliers.
